I have just come to realize how important drive is to ones self. I personally motivate myself by setting goals and rewarding myself afterward. My biggest drive lately is to own a really fast, fun to drive car. This drive is sometimes obsessive, sometimes needless, but definitely necessary for me to accomplish great tasks.
Realization
Tonight I game to the realization that I can’t afford to buy a new car this fall or following spring. I could buy it the old fashioned way and get a large loan that requires large monthly payments, but I am too pratical to accept that.
Discovery
I discovered that giving up the quest for something effects my drive. Just after I came to the realization that I should not buy a new car this year, my drive to do things diminished. I don’t want to clean the apartment, I don’t want to work on software. I don’t even want to type this blog.
Restoration
I have come full circle with the realization that I must return the idea of getting a new car this fall/spring. The idea of someday having may just be better than the idea of giving up.
The Big Picture
I believe the need to reward ones self is a maturity issue. The older we all get the closer we come to realizing that our accomplishments are not judged by what drove us to do them, but what significance they have to others. The idea of leaving something positive for future mankind gives me drive, but I am not yet mature enough for that to be my main source of motivation. I aspire someday to reach that point in my life.

Many moons ago I worked for Little Caesars pizza. One of their best kept secrets (not really that secret) was their cheese. We used to grind it fresh every morning and man was it good. Around the time I quit working their in 1995, they started using prepackaged cheese which lacked that fresh taste that it used to have.
About 6 months ago I made a home made pizza. I decided to pick up a few slices of Muster and a bag of mozzarella. I noticed the Munster had a slightly colored look to it with red in spots. When I remember Munster it was a slightly different shade of mozzarella, but I did not think anything of it. I made my pizza, it tasted great and I didn’t think much about it till now.
I looked up Munster on the web tonight and found the Munster Little Caesars is Americanized (or bastardized if you prefer) cheese. It is made from pasteurized milk, where the real Munster that I used recently on my pizza was real Munster made from goats milk.
This leads me to think that Little Caesars pizza may have tasted even better long ago. My theory is, the original cheese recipe called for Munster cheese. Once Little Caesars wasn’t so little, someone decided to save some money and buy Bastardized cheese rather than purchase the more expensive real thing from France. So now I wonder how good a Little Caesars pizza would taste if it had real Munster cheese. I tell you what, the pizza I made a few months ago with the REAL Munster tasted pretty darn good, and it didn’t even have that great crust that Little Caesars had.
Doesn’t this make you wonder what other products used to taste better before they bastardized them to save money?

I have updated my Ohio Route 1 web site.
The state of Ohio has many state marked roads. Ohio does not have a Route 1. One day I was surfing the net and came across a web page on the Ohio Department of Transportation that has every state issued map available for download online. I downloaded every year and found myself studying the original routes and how they have changed.
One interesting fact is that Ohio reuses its route numbers. For example, back when the original route numbers were issued, State route 58 was a short East/West route that followed Fenn Road in Medina County. At some point it was decommissioned. The route number was later reused for as a North/South route near Amherst, OH.
Find out what I learned studying these maps at my Ohio Route 1 web site.
